Cub Scout Super Trip (North Carolina Zoo Snorin Safari Campout)

For our super trip this year, we will be doing an overnight campout at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro, NC.

We will all meet at the church at 2 pm on April 26th so we can all travel to the zoo together.

Families will need to bring money for food and any souvenirs they wish to purchase on April 27th during the normal zoo tour.

Schedule:

2:00pm: Meet at Cross and Crown church to drive up to Zoo together.

4:45pm: Meet your educators at North America parking Lot I (Iguana) near our Solar Pointe

picnic area. Your educators will give you a parking pass to put in your dashboard for the

night.

5:00pm: Meet your staff for the event, go over rules and the evening’s itinerary, and tour of

area.

5:15pm: Set up tents, staff can help as needed.

6:15pm: Meet at Solar Pointe pavilion for name tags and activities before dinner.

6:30pm: Dinner

7:15pm: Meet at Solar Pointe pavilion for North American Safari Walk! Wear comfortable

shoes and appropriate attire. Adults will be given red flashlights to use on the walk, no

other flashlights allowed for animals’ and campers’ eye well-being! Educators will have

sensory bags and first aid kits with them if needed on the walk.

8:45pm: Back to campsite for bathroom/free time break.

9:00pm: Meet educators for some nighttime activities.

9:30pm: S’mores by the campfire!

10:30-11:00pm: Free time and get ready for bed.

11:00pm-6:00am: Quiet time! All guests in tents and being respectful of other campers who

may be trying to sleep.

7:00am: Rise and shine! All guests get up and pack up all gear and load into vehicles.

7:45am: Breakfast at Solar Pointe pavilion.

8:30am: Meet our animal ambassadors (weather dependent).

9:00am: Educator will collect your parking passes. Guests can either go home or go into the

Zoo (guests will need to buy your own tickets either at the entrance or in advance at

nczoo.org or call 336-879-7700).

Gear List:

Recommended items to bring to your Snorin’ Safari Campout:

• Weather appropriate clothing- Snorin’ Safari is an all-weather adventure!

-Heavy coat, hat, gloves, if it’s cold

-Rain gear if it’s wet

-Sunscreen, hat, etc. if it’s hot

• Comfortable, well-fitting, walking shoes—NO FLIP-FLOP STYLE SHOES

• Refillable water bottle

• Tent/s

• Camp chairs

• Flashlight, headlamp and/or battery-operated lantern for camping site. We will provide adults

with red flashlights for the evening walk in the park, no other lights will be used during the walk

for the animals’ and the campers’ eye wellbeing!

• Sleeping bag

• Sleeping pad or air mattress (we have a limited supply of air pads for children without one;

please let us know in advance how many you need)

• Pillow

• Sleepwear

• Hand Towel & Washcloth—there are NO shower facilities

• Toothpaste & Toothbrush

• Personal Items (toiletries, cosmetics, etc.)

• Medications

Optional items:

• Camera

• Small Backpack or Waist Pack

• Snacks/food if any dietary restrictions we cannot meet

• Bug Spray for the night hike (during summer months)

The following are prohibited on Snorin’ Safari Campouts:

• Alcohol- not permitted on Zoo grounds

• Smoking- the Zoo is a smoke-free facility, this includes vaping materials

• Flip-flop style or backless-style shoes

• Heelys

• Light-up shoes

• Pets

• Valuables

• Electronics—portable televisions, laptops, radios, video games, etc.

• Any fire-starting implements

**The North Carolina Zoo cannot be responsible for lost/misplaced items or for items

retrieved accidentally by other participants. Be sure to label ALL gear.**
